A New Chapter: Wanza and Gullele Botanic Garden Sign Five-Year Partnership
Wanza Botanical Garden and Gullele Botanic Garden have signed a five-year partnership to advance botanical knowledge, plant documentation and environmental education marking a new chapter in Wanza’s growth.

Wanza Botanical Garden and Gullele Botanic Garden have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding, establishing a framework for cooperation in botanical knowledge, education and conservation.
The signing marks a meaningful milestone in Wanza’s development. With a history reaching back to 1986, our garden is strengthening the knowledge, records and institutional relationships that support the care of its living collections.
The partnership creates opportunities for plant identification and documentation, professional learning, environmental education, and dialogue on biodiversity and botanical-garden practice. A first-year priority is a botanical collection verification visit to help identify existing trees and plants, clarify scientific names, and improve Wanza’s plant register and labelling.
Behind this work is a simple purpose: understanding what grows here helps us care for it and share its stories. Better botanical records will support the garden’s development as a place of discovery for students, educators and visitors.
The agreement also provides space for the two gardens to consider selected educational and public-engagement activities together. Each institution remains independent, with activities agreed according to shared priorities and available capacity.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the leadership and botanical team of Gullele Botanic Garden for their cooperation. We look forward to sharing the learning and progress that emerge from this partnership.
